Have you wanted to learn chess? This introductory class taught by a National Scholastic Chess Foundation instructor will teach you the basics.

About Instructor WFM Amelia Hernandez: A medical doctor in her home country of Venezuela, Amelia Hernandez was the Venezuelan Under-20 National Champion six times, was 5 times the Venezuelan Women’s National Champion, won the gold medal at the World Chess Olympiad in Moscow in 1994, and is the youngest member ever inducted into the Venezuelan National Sports Hall of Fame. After retiring from chess for over 20 years to concentrate on her medical practice, two years ago Dr. Hernandez began competing again, once again won her nation’s championship at represented Venezuela at the 43 Chess Olympiad held in Batumi, Georgia in 2018. She is a chess teacher at Franklin Academy in Sunrise as well as being one of the resident instructors for The Sunrise Center for Excellence in Chess.
